A friend writes Elizabeth from Lexington, Ky. 2 October 1910, complaining about "the awfullest Yankee up here you ever saw." Apparently this teacher objected to using racial slurs. She gives her opinion of that, of Abraham Lincoln and of the outcome of the Civil War.
