Manuscript Database

Manuscript Database

Search the Filson Historical Society’s Manuscript Collections online!

The Manuscript Database is the primary access point for subject-level descriptions of the Filson’s manuscript collections, which include personal and family papers and diaries, business and organization’s records, scrapbooks, architectural records, and autograph collections.  Online indexes and research tools for searching other portions of the Filson’s collections are available via the menu on the left side of the page. This database will not link to digitized materials, only descriptions. By clicking on the “View Cards” button that appears on a specific search result page, you can see an image of the catalog card(s) for the collection.

Instructions:  Please use the search box below to do an online search of the Manuscript Database, which will provide subject level descriptions.  The database defaults to a keyword “AND” search of all fields (for example, it will look for the words John AND Smith if you type in John Smith).  For help with searching and further searching tips, please use the help link below the search box.  Please note that this search will lead you to detailed information on the subjects found within the collections, not digital images of the collections themselves.
