Fearful of another raid on Paducah by the Confederates, he requests Wallace to take care of some things of Fanni Wallace who lost some of her best furniture in the first bombardment; she went out some four weeks ago and requested him to acknowledge Mrs. Alexander's letter to her; tells of shell which struck his home during his absence in New York and the state of excitement in Paducah.
