Letter written from Elkton, Ky. by "Uncle Billy" to his younger brother discussing secession after Lincoln's election. He writes that Kentucky is "strongly advocating the preservation of the Union, if it can be done without compromising her rights". He adds that Kentucky doesn't "deem the election of Lincoln as sufficient cause for the dismemberment of the Union". He criticizes the actions of S. Carolina and "Southern fanatics".
