Photocopy of a letter from Elizabeth "Betsey" Todd in Madison Ind. to her cousin William. She shares detailed family news from the Civil War years including the death of her brother, David C. Humphreys, and four of his adult children. In regard to her eight children, she relates that three of her sons died in the Confederate service and her son-in-law, Gen. Ben Hardin Helm, a Confederate officer, was killed at the battle of Chickamauga. The step-mother of Mary Todd Lincoln and former resident of Lexington, Ky., 'Betsey" Todd was the matriarch of one of the leading pro-Confederate families in Kentucky.
