Content

A corporal in Co. C of the 18th Michigan Infantry, Ramsdell writes to his brother Ira, in Adrian, Michigan, from Kentucky. He discusses currency issues, the mail system, and requests newspapers from home in his 9 November 1862 letter from Lexington, Kentucky. He specifically writes about any money with "Michigan" on it will get him strung up. "The Michigan I put in my knapsack I can not pass that here.... I passed that $2 Kentucky bill yesterday got $ 1.75 back all sound the rest will go soon you can send...anything that has not got the name of Michigan on it."
