Letter from Hughes to his wife dated 30 December 1864 gives information on General Hylan B. Lyon's raid, of which Hughes' regiment was part, into Kentucky. Mentions having captured and paroled over four hundred Union soldiers. Hughes was a 2nd Lieutenant of the 13th Kentucky Cavalry (CSA).
