Lt. Col. Thomas B. Fairleigh, 26th Kentucky Infantry Regiment, keeps a diary of 1 January to 7 June 1864. During this time, he was stationed at Camp Nelson, Louisville, and Lexington. He describes his duties and comments on the course of the war, especially the recruitment of Black soldiers.
