Dickinson briefly relates a recent Civil War skirmish near Columbia, Kentucky, and comments on conditions and the food supply in his military camp in Columbia. He writes that he would much rather be in Kentucky than in Virginia, comments on his general health, and the number of men in the hospital. He relates how all who come inside of their lines must take the Oath of Allegiance and that they will arrest anyone of whom they are suspicious.
