Content
This collection consists of a proposed plan for redesigning Lincoln Park at the corner of Fourth Street and Chestnut Street in Louisville, Kentucky. The creator of the proposal is unknown, but it was donated by James Segrest, a former city planner for Louisville. The park shared the block with the original Post Office in the 1930s. The building was demolished to provide materials for World War II. After the demolition, the park was expanded over the base of the old Post Office. Based on an article in The Courier-Journal from March 19, 1959, this proposal was likely created in the early 1940s, when "citizen's groups planted trees, shrubs, and laid walkways for the park in 1944." The image in the article is almost identical to the rendered proposal. The park only survived for a few years before it was auctioned off by the city and turned into commercial buildings and a parking lot.
