This collection includes photocopies of two typed histories of the Honaker and Coyle families of Bath County, Ky. prepared by John W. Honaker of Owingsville, Ky. The Coyle history describes his grandfather, George Coyle (1792-1882) as an "Old Line Whig" who voted the Bell-Everett ticket during the 1860 presidential election. He relates that "two ruffian soldiers" attempted to rob the elder Coyle who drove them away by pretending he was armed. He observes, "The freeing of the slaves lost him thousands of dollars, but I never heard him complain of it. (p. 51) He also relates that his grandfather was arrested in 1864 after a verbal altercation with some Michigan soldiers and briefly confined in Lexington. (p. 38)
