The residence was designed by the architectural firm of Shepley, Rutan, and Collidge. The property and residence are referred to as Gardencourt. G. W. Norton, brother of the Misses Norton, owned adjacent property where Norton Hall was situated; the structure was demolished in 1962. The property is located off Alta Vista Avenue and is near Beargrass Creek. Gardencourt is now on the property of the Presbyterian Theological Seminary and is listed as part of the Gardencourt historic district on the National Register of Historic Places.
