Content

The collection consists of items related to two Jewish families from Louisville, Kentucky: the Shermans and the Grossmans. A 1908 Russia-America line immigration inspection card documents the departure of Leon Sherman (formerly Lev Charman), born in Russia ca. 1901, from the Baltic port of Libau (now the Latvian city of Liep?ja). The collection also includes a ketubah, a Jewish marriage contract, signed by Leon Sherman and Rose Salzman on January 30, 1920. Rose was born in Indiana ca. 1903. The final item is a World War II Office of Price Administration ration book belonging to Annie J. Grossman, who was born in Russia in 1875, migrated to the United States in 1899, and settled in Louisville. The items were donated by Terrie Sherman, who is the granddaughter of Leon and Rose Sherman and the great granddaughter of Annie Grossman. Copies of the Ellis Island ship manifest for the Sherman family were separated from the collection and put into the Sherman Family File.
