Charles W. Morris (1892-1961) was the first president of the Louisville Conference of Jewish Organizations, serving from 1934 to 1950. This collection documents the role of Jewish Louisvillians in the US armed forces during WWII and the efforts of Charles W. Morris to create a service flag and plaques honoring their service at the Young Men's Hebrew Association (YMHA) of Louisville, Ky. Folder 1 contains correspondence to/from Charles W. Morris primarily related to arranging for speakers at the service flag dedication at the YMHA on January 10, 1943. Correspondents include Mayor Wilson Wyatt; Senator Alben Barkley; Lt. General Jacob Devers, Fort Knox; Benjamin Kaufman, National Commander, Jewish War Veterans; Frank L. Weil, President, National Jewish Welfare Board. Folder 2 contains miscellaneous materials including a program pamphlet for the service flag dedication ceremony, lists of enlisted Jewish men and women from Louisville, and various pamphlets and newspaper articles debunking the rumors of Jewish Americans draft dodging.
