Items document Sara (Woldman) Greenstein's involvement with the women's clothing store Bon Ton, the United Jewish Campaign, and Jewish Hospital in Louisville, Kentucky in the 1910s-1960s. Sara Woldman was born in Cleveland, Ohio in 1899 and married Joseph H. Greenstein, founder and president of Bon Ton Cloak and Suit Co., in 1926. Sara Greenstein took over ownership and management of Bon Ton after her husband's death in 1935. Items in the collection include various Bon Ton items: a copy of a 1915 Louisville Herald advertisement, a blank order form, and blank envelopes and stationery with addresses at Fourth and Liberty and at 3743 Deep Dale Lane in Louisville. Also included are a certificate from the Conference of Jewish Organizations of Louisville, Ky. honoring Sara Greenstein's chairing the Women's Division during the 1945 United Jewish Campaign, and a 1962 Louisville Times article about Greenstein's position as president of the Jewish Hospital Board of Trustees, a position she held from 1962-1965. Photographs and objects acquired with Sara Greenstein's papers have been separated and transferred to the Filson's photograph collection (020PC28) and museum collection (2020.33.1-6).
