Biographical Note
1921 in Cleveland, Ohio. He attended Ohio State University, where he earned his Bachelor of Science in Education, and later served in the Army during World War II. Metz worked in broadcasting at WHAS-Radio and WHAS-TV in Louisville, Kentucky, as a talk show host and weathercaster for 19 years. He made his debut on WHAS-Radio in 1946 and helped put WHAS-TV on the air. In the same year, he began recording Talking Books at American Printing House for the Blind. He had a nighttime radio show called Metz Here that ran from 1959-1993. He also hosted Omelet on WHAS-TV with co-host Faith Lyles; Omelet aired from 1971-1976. In 1993, he retired from 840 WHAS-AM but kept doing ads for TV and radio. His personal life was not public, so the depth of his history in his career is all that can be located.

Scope and Content Note
This collection contains documentation regarding Milton Metz’s career in broadcasting at WHAS-Radio and newscasting at WHAS-TV in Louisville, Kentucky. Materials include newspaper clippings of articles that Metz worked on or “current events” of the time that he was on the air; advertisements for events and special projects held at WHAS-Radio and WHAS-TV or outside organizations; and correspondence between Metz and colleagues and fans regarding his work at WHAS-Radio and WHAS-TV.
Folders 1-4 contain correspondence and newspaper clippings, including documentation of Metz’s time on the television segment Weathervane and national organizations like American Printing House for the Blind Inc. and the Fund for Adult Education.
Folder 5 contains correspondence and other material related to the American Printing House for the Blind, including lists of books Metz read for recordings for the company and oral history and corporate memory project transcripts.
Folder 6 contains programs and bulletins for Louisville organizations related to Metz, including the Adath Israel Sisterhood, Beechmont Woman’s Club, Floyd County Youth Symphony, and Temple Adath Israel.
Folder 7 contains correspondence and memorandum related to the Fund for Adult Education Fellowship. Metz attended The Fund for Adult Education Institute for Mass Media Fellows during their 1957-1958 season. He and 32 other journalists and newscasters were nominated for this fellowship. He attended for four months.
Folders 8-11 contain material related to Metz’s career, including his education and local and national projects he participated in. Folder 8 contains advertisements and correspondence promoting the 17th anniversary of his show Metz Here on WHAS.
Folders 12-13 contain material related to Louisville’s radio and television history, specifically in organizations and events that Milton was a part of or attended. Folder 13 includes transcriptions of some news broadcasts and interviews regarding the Kentucky Derby.
Folder 14 contains newspaper articles from the segment Hi Jinks, some segments of which were written by Milton Metz. Some original photographs from the articles can be found in the Milton Metz photograph collection (018PC24).
