Scope and Content Note
The papers of Henry Saint Julian (1815-1876) and his brother-in-law Thomas Scudder Page (1800-1877). Julian worked at a bank in Louisville, and the correspondence is a mixture of banking business and family correspondence. The Thomas Page correspondence is a mixture of business and family correspondence. There are some personal ledgers from Julian and an oversized broadside from Thomas S. Page’s bankruptcy sale in 1863. Other subjects of interest include letters discussing enslavement, deaths of family members, and the politics of the day.
Historical/Biographical Note
Henry Saint Julian was a banker in Louisville from the 1830s to the 1860s. The collection includes correspondence from many friends and relatives. Thomas Scudder Page was a brother-in-law of Henry Saint Julian, and many letters in the collection were written by him. Also included in the collection is a broadside from the 1863 bankruptcy sale of Thomas S. Page after he was caught embezzling state money.
