Content

Series of drawings for Springfield, the boyhood home of President Zachary Taylor, at 5608 Apache Road in Louisville, Kentucky. The original western section of the building was completed c. 1790 for Taylor's father, Richard Taylor, and the eastern section was completed c. 1810 or 1830. Drawings, dating from 1975-77, include 29 construction and renovation sheets by John F. Morton, Jr., including floor plans, building sections, detail drawings, plumbing, electrical, and mechanical, and building elevations. These drawings are related to renovations necessary after damage to the house from the April 3, 1974 tornado. Mr. & Mrs. Hugh Haynie owned the house during this period. Drawings related to an earlier renovation (5 sheets) by Nevin, Wischmeyer, & Morgan, that date from 1927, when the house was owned Mr. E. Levi. These drawings are related to the addition of bathrooms and cornice and include floor plans and detail drawings of the cornice. Springfield was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1974.
