Items related to the service of Harold B. Green in the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II. The son of Jewish immigrants, Green was born and grew up in Louisville, Kentucky, and enlisted in the Air Force in 1942 at the age of 19. Materials in the collection include Green's military records, newspaper clippings, telegram and V-mail sent to his family, and an autobiographical narrative of his World War II experiences. These papers identify him as a intelligence specialist in photo reconnaissance who did work for the campaigns of Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Central Europe, Ardennes, and Air Offensive Europe. Also of note are a German anti-American propaganda leaflet, and a copy of Dwight D. Eisenhower's statement distributed to members of the Allied Expeditionary Force on the eve of D-Day in June 1944. Photographs acquired with Harold Green's papers have been separated and transferred to the Filson's photograph collection (019PC11).
