Content

Items related to the 1937 flood in Louisville and other parts of Kentucky, collected in a scrapbook by the Jewish physician Dr. Karl N. Victor. Dr. Victor was an ear, nose, and throat physician who had an office practice and served on the medical staff of Jewish Hospital and Norton Infirmary. Materials include articles and images about the flood published in the Louisville Times, the Courier-Journal, the Chicago Herald and Examiner, Life magazine, and medical and public health journals. Additional items in the collection are health department passes and permits issued to Dr. Victor, allowing him to buy gas and to move in and out of quarantined areas of Louisville. A picture postcard of the flood on Broadway Street includes Dr. Victor's handwritten notation showing where his doctor's office was in the Breslin Building.
