Content

A history of the First Baptist Church of Fisherville, Kentucky, (1827-1977) contains rosters of church members by gender in 1855, including a list of "colored members". These individuals apparently were slaves since each name is followed by the phrase "belonging to" (pg. 14). "A colored preacher was brought in as a means of giving preaching to the colored portion of our community" (pg. 22). The original church building in Fisherville (1852) had a balcony for slaves (pg. 38).
