In a letter dated 14 February 1864, Eli Stone in Bloomfield, Kentucky, discusses his slaves leaving to join the Union army and how it will affect him. Stone also informs his brother, Stephens J. Stone, that his slaves have run away. Stone's 29 February 1864 letter to his brother states that he thinks Paducahans should not be subject to the draft because they provided so many black soldiers.
