Biographical Note

Founded in 1911 by Thomas J. Nolan, Nolan & Nolan underwent multiple name changes including Nolan & Sons. Works by Thomas J. Nolan include Marion County Courthouse, Hardin County Courthouse, Hart County Courthouse, Bradfordville High School, Grayson County Courthouse, Marion County High School, Rineyville grade and high, White Mills grade and high, Glasgow Junction grade and high, and Holy Trinity. One of Thomas’ most notable projects was St. Martin. Built in 1927, this parish funded the construction due to its growing congregation. In 1995, the grandsons of Thomas J. Nolan conducted renovations of the exterior and added a chapel and bathrooms to the interior. This church is located at 639 South Shelby Street, Louisville, KY.

Nolan & Nolan worked around Kentucky for decades, designing many utilitarian structures such as hospitals and schools. In 1999, Nolan & Nolan was the second largest architectural firm in Louisville with fourteen architects. However, as of 2018, the company is no longer in business.
