Scope and Content Note
This collection contains architectural drawings of projects produced by the firm Micheal Koch and Associates Architects (MKA) from 1994-2004. The collection contains drawings completed for Assumption High School, as well as various residential projects. Additionally, the collection houses seven representative architectural drawings created by hand. These drawings utilize mediums different from traditional architectural drawings, like watercolor, marker, and colored pencil.
Most of the projects are located in Louisville, Kentucky, apart from two projects located in nearby cities. See the project index for more information.

Biographical or Historical Note
Micheal Koch and Associates Architects was founded by J. Micheal Koch in 1983. Prior to the founding of his firm, Micheal Koch studied at the University of Kentucky’s School of Architecture under Dean Eardley from 1975-1980. He was influenced by architects he met during his time at school, including Larry Melillo, Jasper Ward, and Bob Kingsley.
Koch grew up in Louisville, born to two Louisville natives who encouraged his interest in architecture well before attending university. Growing up in the Highlands – a neighborhood with successful mixed-use attributes – Koch found many different types of architecture, eventually becoming fascinated with newly constructed buildings of the 1950s and 60s.
Koch’s firm designed many buildings in and around Louisville, including part of the campus of Assumption High School, and many residential buildings. His works emphasize the usage of light and directionality in architecture, often housed in the neighborhood he grew up in. Koch’s firm closed in 2019.
