Scope and Content Note 

This collection consists of correspondence and newspaper articles detailing the lives of Levy family members, particularly Hubert E. Leland and his father Abraham Levy. Four family photographs are included in the collection. Correspondence includes letters between Hubert and his father, family members, and business partners.

 

Biographical Note 

Hubert E. Leland was born Hubert E. Levy in 1876 to Abraham Levy (1847-1911) and Elizabeth Lieberman (1850-1921). He was known as a reporter for both The Courier-Journal and The Louisville Times, secretary and treasurer of the Kentucky Automobile Company, and the son of one of the founders of the Levy Brothers store. The Levy family owned and ran the Levy Brothers clothing store that was located at the Levy Bros. Building in downtown Louisville. The name change of Hubert E. Leland is unclear at the time of research.
