Scope and Content Note 

This collection consists of genealogical material related to the Heitz family of Louisville, Kentucky. Material concerns the Heitz family and allied families, including the McDonald and Fichtner families.

Folder 1 contains two family trees of the Heitz family that can serve as a map of the layout of this collection.

Folder 11 contains miscellaneous materials detailing small branches of the Heitz family, the family’s church, and family purchases, including miscellaneous letters and church materials found throughout the collection without a dedicated recipient.

Biographical Note 

Frederick J. Heitz, Sr. (1854-1928) and Mary Christiane Selter Heitz (1863-1936) married on 19 May 1891 in Louisville, Kentucky. They had at least seven children together:

  • Willa Heitz (1892-1948), married to Rudolph (Rudy) J. Schwab (1891-1932).
  • Louis F. Heitz (1893-1974), married to Eleanor McDonald (1903-1987).
  • Mary Louise Heitz (1894-1963), married to John A. Fichtner (1883-1960).
  • Victor P. Heitz (1896-1978), married to Margaret (Peggy) Smith (1907-1996).
  • Roger Heitz (1898-1960), married to Mary Elizabeth Lynch.
  • Flora Heitz (1904-1996), married to John L. McDonald (1893-1975). Flora earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of Louisville.
  • Raymond Heitz (1905-1986), married to Helen F. Carden (1911-1997).

Victor and Roger Heitz were printers, Louis Heitz was a chemist, and Raymond Heitz was a doctor. Other information regarding the family and their impact on Louisville, Kentucky, is unknown.

Contains personal records from Mary Louise Heitz Fichtner (1894-1963) and her husband John A. Fichtner (1884-1960).

Contains miscellaneous letters and church materials found throughout the collection without a dedicated recipient. Material found in this folder pertains to the family’s church involvement and miscellaneous family purchases.

Diploma presented to Louis A. Heitz on June 22nd, 1911.

Diploma presented to Flora Heitz on June 16th, 1920.

Folder 18 (oversized): Western Junior High School appreciation poster, 5 May 1964.

Token of appreciation poster presented to Flora H. McDonald on behalf of her many co-workers and associates she worked with at Western Junior High School.
