History Inspires Showcase – Tammy Burke and Ashley Thursby

Date: September 5, 2024
Time: 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm
Location: Filson Historical Society (In-Person Only)

Join us for an evening of history inspired creativity in the first of a two-part series showcasing the Filson’s History Inspires Fellowship recipients. This program features two of the 2024 cohort of fellows, Tammy Burke and Ashley Thursby who will share with the public the materials researched in the Filson’s collections and how the items were the muse for their artistic projects.

Tammy Burke, a contemporary artist and garment maker lifts imagery from the quilt collection and the Ferguson mansion to create a glass mosaic of a rumpled quilt and a motorcycle jacket imprinted with images of the architectural mosaics of the mansion.

Utilizing both visual and written design excerpts from the archives, dancer and choreographer Ashley Thursby has begun the creative process of choreography for an interpretive dance to be performed during the Louisville Ballet’s 75th anniversary season. She will present her creative process and gather information through audience participation in identifying the past, present and future of dance.

The HIF program continues to build relationships with artists by promoting the Filson Historical Society as a resource for artistic scholarly research and inspiration.
