Baron mentions the weather situation for most days recorded in the two-week period -- the continual rain, one night of snow, etc. Baron also gives exact figures for the height of flood waters on the peak day of the flood as compared to the last flood record in 1884.

Haldeman Family Papees, 1843-1985. 28 boxes.An Aug. 12, 1887 letter complains about the heat and notes that Louisville was actually the hottest city in the nation; a March 2, 1898 describes a 'typical tough March Day" in Louisville; and a Feb. 9, 1904 letter discussing the "warm and humid" weather causing "a great deal of sickness all over the city..."

Haldeman Family Added Papers, 1898-1940.Throughout his correspondence with his wife, Bruce Haldeman notes weather conditions in Louisville. A Jan. 29, 1902 letter notes, "Last. night it commenced to sleet and snow and this morning the ground was covered with two or three inches of icy rust..."

One bulletin described the rainfall as "heaviest in the nation".
