The Filson is on the Cultural Pass!

The Filson Historical Society is participating in the 2017 Cultural Pass! The 2017 Cultural Pass is presented by Churchill Downs, in partnership with Metro Louisville, Fund for the Arts, Arts and Culture Alliance and the Louisville Free Public Library. The Cultural Pass runs from June 9 through August 12 and is FREE for children 0-21. You can visit The Filson on Fridays at 2:00 p.m. during this time as part of the Cultural Pass.

Our first Cultural Pass Friday went extremely well. We were visited by 10 families who enjoyed a scavenger hunt in The Ferguson Mansion, tours of our WWI exhibits, and an art station in the Owsley Brown II History Center where kids could choose between coloring poppies or creating 3D paper poppies as part of the Kentucky Poppy Project. Once they were finished with the tour, families were sent home with poppy seeds to grow their own poppies and a reproduction of a WWI pamphlet on how to plant a garden.

The poppies created during the 2017 Cultural Pass will be displayed at the 2017 Kentucky State Fair and later on will be displayed on the steps of the Capital building in Frankfort.
