Manager of Development and Membership
Job Description

Summary
Responsible for membership, development, grants, planned giving, annual fund, events and rentals. Provide leadership and support for cultivating and generating revenue for The Filson. Assist the Vice President in building a collaborative network both internally and externally by attending meetings, supporting programs, and assisting with events and rentals.

Professional and Leadership Duties
- Identify and cultivate sources of support in accordance with fundraising and membership goals
- Raise funds for The Filson in excess of $1 million through membership, annual fund, sponsorships, events, and more
- Develop and maintain a strategic perspective to ensure the overall health and vitality of The Filson
- Exhibit leadership by inspiring, leading, and collaborating with all staff
- Supervise assigned staff
- Undertake other ad hoc management assignments including being a supervisor when requested by the Vice President (e.g., approving time sheets, decision making, and managing staff)
- Develop coordinated communication strategies and fundraising efforts
- Secure sponsors for programs, events, and exhibits
- Sustain a public profile with industry partners, affiliates, affinity organizations, and in relevant public forums
- Seek grant funding to support the mission and priorities established by The Filson leadership
- Disseminate information in a timely manner, meet deadlines, and communicate frequently with the public, staff, and volunteers
- Actively participate in relevant professional organizations
- Make editorial suggestions for Development and Membership publications
- Ensure website is up to date for Development and Membership
- Maintain accurate records and provide regular reports on membership, annual giving, and planned giving
- Manage financial data and reconcile member information related to duties
- Maintain a neat and organized work area
- Conduct campus tours as needed
- Assist staff, visitors, and others as necessary
- Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree
- Flexibility to work some weekend and evening hours
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
- Lift and carry objects weighing from 15 to 25 pounds, or more with assistance

The mission of The Filson is to collect, preserve, and tell the significant stories of Kentucky and Ohio Valley history and culture. In order to best support the mission, all employees are expected to make contributions to daily operations that are not explicitly stated within the scope of their job title or department duties. To that end, all jobs include the requirement to participate in duties that cross over departmental lines and are in the interest of the overall health of the organization and beauty of the campus. This includes but is not limited to tasks that support all facets of customer service, security, housekeeping, and maintenance, such as supporting front desk and reference desk services, closing and alarming the campus, assisting with Filson programs, assisting with messes when immediate attention is needed, picking up garbage on campus, breaking down boxes, keeping the kitchen clean and usable, and cleaning up after yourself (including desk, office, kitchen, bathrooms).
